How to Turn a 45% Loss into a 296% Gain in Real Estate

Real estate investors could have saved a chunk of change... if they had followed my "timing trigger."

Over the past couple weeks, I've been walking you through how to time your purchase of income investments. My strategies allow you to collect higher dividend payments and larger capital gains.

You can use them with all sorts of income-paying assets... like big blue chips, utility stocks, MLPs, and corporate bonds.

They also work in real estate...

Real estate investment trusts (or "REITs") allow income investors to collect "rent" without the hassles of owning property...

A REIT is essentially a management company that owns property... It collects rents. And it gets big tax breaks in exchange for agreeing to pass on the vast majority of its annual income to shareholders.  (more)

To review Kratos' stock, please take a look at the 1-year chart of KTOS (Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc.) below with my added notations:
1-year chart of KTOS (Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc.) Over the last 8 months KTOS has consistently moved higher and during that time the stock has also formed a nice trend line of support (blue). Always remember that any (2) points can start a trend line, but it's the 3rd test and beyond that confirm its importance. Obviously KTOS's trend line is important to the stock since it has been tested on multiple occasions over the last 8 months. In addition, the stock is sitting on the same $8 level that it found support at back in October.

The Tale of the Tape: KTOS has both a trend line support and an $8 support. A long position could be entered on a pullback to $8, with a stop placed below that level. A short position could be entered if KTOS were to break below $8, which would also be a break of the trend line support.

My Favorite Energy Trade for 2014: Coal

Coal isn’t exactly the most glamorous or exciting fuel on the planet…

But it still dominates the global landscape.

And it’s the top source of electricity generation, accounting for more than 40% of the fuels used for producing electricity.

Natural gas is the second-highest fuel source of electricity production — and will surpass coal by the end of this decade.

But until natural gas overtakes coal, there’s still a ton of profit up for grabs in the coal industry.  (more)

Market Outlook: Relative Strength Indicator Could be Invaluable in This Market Environment

Last week, stock prices reacted to the news. Stock picking could become more important as the market reaches new highs, and one technical indicator could be helpful to traders looking to avoid downside surprises.

It Is Becoming a Market of Stocks
Fed chair nominee Janet Yellen confirmed that quantitative easing and low interest rates should continue for the foreseeable future. Traders seem to believe this is good news, and SPDR S&P 500 (NYSE: SPY) gained 1.56% last week.

The ETF has now closed up six weeks in a row. SPY has had a winning streak of this length 15 times in the past 20 years. In the short term, this winning streak offers us little information. The next week closed up seven times and lower eight times. Longer term, SPY was up six months later 80% of the time.  (more)
